Visiting the over 130 million year old rainforest in the Endau-Rompin National Park’s untouched wilderness (“Where Nature and Adventure Meet”, admission for aliens: MYR 10.- per person, +6094145204), hiking along the banks of the Kinchin River and, whilst taking a refreshing dip in the Mahkota Waterfalls, a truly awe-inspiring 50-m fall with a nice natural swimming pool at the bottom, being covertly peeped by an invisible Orang Mawas aka Hantu Jarang Gigi, a mythical bigfoot type denizen of the forest.

Meeting the very friendly ladies of the Proto-Malay Orang Asli Jakun tribe at Kampung Seron, learning about their traditions and culture and feasting together on delicious clams with hot green-chilli sauce; many thanks, Mokra, Mokrambo, Mokwan, Nasuha and Nafiqa for your wonderful hospitality (… and for your excellent cooking skills).

Frequenting the many attractive road-side farm stalls with their exotic choice of food products: (i) colourful jars with pickled local fruits like bidara (Indian jujube), asam kelubi (eleiodoxa), kedondong (Otaheite apple aka ambarella), buah kundang (mango plum) and kemudu (button fruit aka black noni fruit), (ii) heaps of giant sweet pineapples (only MYR 10.- for five XXXL hunks), (iii) ulam-ulam (a delicious salad of raw local veggies such as nangka [big jackfruit], buah jering [flying-saucer shaped beans] and okra [ladyfingers] which are dipped into budu [a paste made from fermented anchovies], cincalok [a paste made from fermented shrimps], or tempoyak [a paste made from fermented and near-alcoholic durian pulp mixed with pounded chilli]), (iv) udang galah (lekker giant river prawns) and (v) lemang, made from glutinous rice and cooconut milk cooked in a hollowed bamboo stick lined with banana leaves in order to prevent the rice from sticking to the bamboo.
