Sailing rather uneventfully the light northerly winds between Grandi Island/India and Uligamu/Maldives and spotting en-route oodles of highly venomous Shaw’s sea snakes (Lapemis curtus) bask in the sun on the sparkling surface of a smooth Arabian Sea.

Losing near Minicoy in the southern Laccadives the signal from our Robertson RFC 250 fluxgate compass due to a dried out capacitor, dealing with a malfunctioning autopilot and proceeding our journey to Chagos with two options: (i) using the transom-mounted Hydrovane self steering if under sail, and (ii) hand steering if under engine.

"Go small, go simple, go now."

Travelling the distance of about 510 nm in 7 days (a relaxed average daily run of just 73 nm) between Grandi Island near Goa/India and the northernmost atoll in the Maldives, the Ihavandhippolhu Atoll, a small natural atoll of 22 km in length with 25 islands all around the boundary reef.
